The Glad Cafe in Glasgow City

I gave this place a fiver star review after coming here with my daughters and their friends occasionally over the years but I've had to change it. The baked goods are awful. They taste dry and stale to a point I had to return everything. It was only then I was informed everything was vegan. There's no sign this is the case. I was not offered a refund. The staff were cold to the point of rudeness. I shall not be back. No doubt I'd be unwelcome anyway. I certainly felt that way on my last visit.

Nice place with good atmosphere. Had jackfish and chips. Enjoyed the jackfish and sauce. Good portion. Decent beer. Great vegan menu.

Been a few times, fairly casual, good vibes. Food and drinks make an obvious effort to be sustainable, would recommend for anyone

The pizza dough was delicious but the "cheese" topping spoiled it. I had a vague memory of The Glad going fully vegan from a couple of years ago, but that was only about five minutes after they'd started doing pizzas and I wasn't sure if they'd changed again, as the menu simply offered pizza with "sausage" and "cheese" while the specials board listed "fish cakes". Why pretend it's something it isn't? It's peculiar because I imagine a place like this would have no problem highlighting if a dish had gluten or nuts in it, but I am none the wiser what the bizarre mimicry of Red Leicester that my pizza was covered in - or my friend's fake fish cakes - consisted of.

Great place for local music 🎶 artists too.

Edit 2024 - still love Glad Cafe, now fully vegan! Food is in-house rather than by Hen of the Woods now, I wasn't super keen on the bean burger but the pizzas are the best vegan ones I've had. It's also a gorgeous place to see wee gigs. Multiple Celtic Connections gigs are held at GC every year, and I've seen lots of jazz/folk/ambient shows here. A great place to work, read, or see friends. Really good brunch food by Hen of the Woods, and a nice selection of cakes. Lots of space and tables. Nice cosy yet spacious environment, I like to tuck myself away there for a few hours as often as I can.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, the food was okay, you can probably get nicer vegan food in the Southside.

We are visiting Glasgow for a couple of days. I saw that this venue hosts an open Mike night the first Sunday of every month. So we decided to give it a whirl. An amazing eclectic mix of musicians and singers. It was an absolutely fantastic night and to top it off Budvar on tap. I loved it and we will definitely come up again making sure our trip coincidentally falls over the first Sunday of the month. Next time we will come early and have something to eat too!

A great wee bar with a great restaurant and venue. The food menu often changes and is always good! Selection of beers as well which is great!

Really cool place with a warm friendly atmosphere. All plant based options made it so hard to choose, but I went for the savoury French toast, amazing!

Went to see Janice Burns and John Doran gig. Xmas folk music. Very nice night and great venue for this music. They are on tour currently and worth a watch

Very friendly, lovely atmosphere. Had the small vegan breakfast and there was plenty to fill me up!

Didn't eat as we just popped in for a swift "sherbert". Will be finding my way back there. Really liked the atmosphere and mix of people.

Avoid their Lemonade on any cost.

We were there for a wee acoustic gig - great venue.

I went to a gig and loved it, I have been before a couple of times and love the venue. Apologies as I never got her name but thanks to the barmaid on the night of Sunday 10 September who was really helpful, obliging and all done with a smile.

Went to a live music event on September 1st and loved the place, it has a really nice vibe but unfortunately the evening was ruined by one a very of the rude and obnoxious man behind the bar. ( Blonde manbun & glasses) The way he spoke to a table close by who were harmlessly playing a kazoo after the gig for literally 2/3 mins was totally over the top which created a dreadful atmosphere within the bar resulting in people actually leaving. This person you employed is doing your establishment no favours and the people he insulted did very well not to react which could have created a much bigger issue considering the level of abuse they received for simply having a fun time on a Friday evening.

Great little spot. Went when they were hosting a indie games festival so maybe be biased cause of that but seems like you always get great service and they host great events regularly. Hidden gem.

Nice wee hidden cafe (with live gig room at the back!), offering lots of vegan options & great choice of non-alcoholic beers! Nice veggie pizza too! Food served till 9pm & opened till 11ish (I think...).

Nice bowl of soup, friendly staff, cafe feels a little dark though. Almost like you could call it the SAD cafe haha because of seasonal affective disorder haha isn't that funny I made a joke oh ok fine be like that.

Sad after many gladly received meals to report abominable service tonight. Ordered two mains for 2 people, but we ate 30mins apart due to unexplained difficulties in kitchen with gluten free pizza. Not Good enough and sadly a free drink doesn't solve a botched dinner

A superb cafe bar and live venue. Didn't have anything to eat on this occasion - purely there to hear a band. A great intimate venue for music and other events. Reasonable prices and a good sound.

Lovely food, my pizza didn't taste at all like it was vegan so was a surprise for me (first vegan experience!) And the pineapple cake at the end tasted exactly the same as usual ones too. Lovely staff and really cool and quirky inside! I think they do live music there sometimes but I might be wrong.

Pedimos dos scones con café y té. El servicio pésimo: había dos dependientes. Ambas se veían molestas y quién nos atendió lo hacía con mucha desgana. Nos ofreció sólo black tea cuando en el menú claramente había más opciones de té. Cuando hicimos la orden resultó que no tenía el sabor que pedimos por lo que nos ofrecieron otras dos opciones. El café americano muy mediocre. Me parece que su fuerte son los brunch pero no regresaría por su nivel de servicio e instalaciones. El lugar estaba muy sucio y con la música muy alta. Abusan del concepto "underground" para justificar este tipo de defectos. Muy forzado todo: desde la carta y servicio hasta su ambientación.

Get a long for some of the music nights, extremely friendly and great atmosphere

If honest food was disappointing and apart from our female server staff appeared very unhappy. I have enjoy many visits and would not be going back to soon which is a pity

Entering into the cafe, the smell of poor drainage hit me, and I was advised by one of the staff that there was an ongoing issue with the drains. This could be a health and safety issue, and it really put me off my meal. The tofu katsu curry was tastless - nothing like it was described in the menu - and the pizza was chewy and anaemic in colour. Coffee was below average and served in cups (no handles) and not hot. The overall experience was dreadful. The cafe is over-rated.

The place itself was nice enough but I was not happy when approached by the bartender telling me his colleague did not appreciate being called "A good girl" to which I knew nothing about, I asked him to go and check with her again and hopefully to acknowledge that I was not the person in question and it was a mistake, I was hoping for an apology and that would have been the end of it so before I left I asked if he had asked her about it again to which I was told he was too busy. I have no issues with sticking up for other colleagues as I would do the same but I hope in future the staff would be 100% sure before accusing someone and even then a simple apology would have done just fine. Everything else was just fine but I for one will not be returning.

Dropped by after trying another cafe (which was full) and so glad we went here. The decor is cool and fun, the staff were lovely and the food was next level. Gorgeous place with great service and fantastic food. Can't wait to go back!

Great Venue. With a tasty choice of vegetarian options. The venue wad nice next door where we saw Kathreen Williams which was great.

vegan menu, soya milk coffee was as natural as normal milk. Pancakes were superb! Perfect place for catching up with an old friend or a casual meeting

I was there for a gig and I was driving so just had soft drink. The cafe/bar looked very nice it was busy but still felt cozy, bar staff were very nice, pleasant asked about the act I was there for.

Genuinely a special cafe, great menu and the food is super tasty. Really big and nice inside and has a relaxed atmosphere. Makes a great brunch/dinner spot but would be cute for coffee and cakes too. Our waiter Chris was so helpful and friendly! The staff were lovely and they allow dogs which are two things I really appreciate, Will be back again and again :)

Loved my visit to the Glad, the vibe and the staff were lovely. I would especially feel comfortable coming on my own. I’m not vegan but I had a cookie and I swear I’d never be able to tell. I look forward to going back soon.

Pleasant place for cake and coffee. Short plant based menu also on offer. Even if you are not veggie it is a great place to meet up woth friends. Has a nice family vibe.

Did not try food but tried bottle bear not my prefrance had a normal whiskey cola in the privet music seckshion where two girls sang singaly and Katy hurts band sang good crowd . Face masks used to enter nise and clean place .

First time in it diffrent kind of drinks food, coffe ,cakes ,looked good. But went there for live band glad there was whisky ,cola a could drink .band was excellent Katy hurt . and other girls were on single singing brilliant rote there own words to they will go far to.

The Glad Cafe - it’s hard to describe how good this place is. The food was superb I don’t think I’ve tasted a Margarita Pizza in the UK that’s a nice as the one I’ve just finished. Staff exceptionally friendly and the ambience is great. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Gr8 wee gig venue, super helpful staff and with the added benefit of having an accessible bar for wheelchair users. Good choice of drinks, fab home-baking.

really excellent food. spacious except for the events room. good atmosphere.

Cafe was a little cold, not much heating on the go. Coffee machine was apparently not switched on around 12pm on a Sunday which was a bit weird... charged for filter coffee which was on par with a Klix coffee.... Brunch was tasty but to be fair its quite expensive for what you get. Pancake stack with 2 crispy bacon rashers and three oversized pancakes was £7. Will give it another go but it didn't leave a great impression to be fair. They are dog friendly which is a bonus and it was quite busy,

Popped along for the first time in ages for brunch, amazing food. Had to steal some from my partners plate. Scrambled eggs on toast were great and the breads massive! Mushrooms and beans were awesome as well. Definitely worth a visit
