The food was exceptional - a bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion. The pub has been renovated to a very high standard.

The Oak was all we had hoped for as a dinner venue during a weekend away with friends. A welcoming hostess accompanied by a black labrador took us to a comfortable lounge with wood burning stove where we had pre-dinner drinks. Then we were directed to the dining room where had excellently cooked meals with friendly efficient service. Due to our having to leave promptly to watch the Rugby World Cup Final we only had time for a starter and main course and the truth is we were sorry to go before desert. The current proprietors have spent a good deal renovating the building to be what it now is and knowing how the hospitality industry is faring we hope it proves money well spent. If we lived in the area we would be regular visitors and if we return to the area it will be on our list of places to go. The Oak is all it should be.

Absolutely amazing food - every single thing was just fantastic, and unusual combinations, all superbly cooked. Cost wise, it was double what we paid at the other two restaurants we visited on our weekend trip, but absolutely worth the money. My only complaint would be that it was quite cold in the restaurant and I kept my coat on! Thoroughly recommended.

Amazing dinner. We are visiting friends in the area and they took us to the Oak and wow. The team are friendly and made us very welcome and the food is outstanding. If we were staying in the area longer and I would demand another visit…next time :)

Everything about this pub is outstanding! We had the warmest of welcomes. The food was absolutely incredible, so many different choices flavour wise but not masses of things to choose from which, in my opinion is perfect! There’s honestly something for everyone. We had a group of 8 of us and the service was just outstanding, we had the most wonderful time. Honestly, if you’re in the area or even if you’re not, visit The Oak in Wigmore! Our favourite restaurant just gets better. Last night’s menu was more extensive and intriguing than ever. Terrific Thai prawns, chateaubriand to die for, delightful desserts, comprehensive and inexpensive wine list; all with the Oak’s uniquely friendly and attentive service. Fine dining on our doorstep-what bliss!!!

We were a party of 8 and all of us had a fabulous meal. Friendly efficient service and a lovely old building with a modern twist. Highly recommend as the best in this area.

Our favourite place for date night and the gorgeous dog Corey stole our hearts!! The Oak NEVER fails to impress us. The food is outstanding, entirely faultless and well priced for such a high standard. The staff are superb, nothing is ever too much trouble and you are never left waiting for anything for too long. The bedrooms are a pure delight, beautifully finished and very comfortable. And again the breakfast was fantastic!! The pub dog is incredibly lovely, we are dog lovers so we think that he is the icing on the cake during our visits. Visited this Sunday for Sunday lunch, food was amazing but what really stood out for me was the outstanding service, every member of staff was incredibly friendly especially the senior lady that served us, she made our trip!

The fortuitous timing of a birthday with a tasting menu evening at The Oak was not an opportunity to pass up. We had a fabulous evening with amazing food. Everything we ate was perfectly balanced with individual but complimentary flavours. Special mention must be made of a duck course which had wonderful eastern flavours as well as a nod towards a classic orange sauce. We were split on the dessert course with one going for an intense raspberry baravois (so often patisserie looks great but disappoints on flavour, not this time) and the other going for a cheeseboard with gingerbread and Epoisse as well as a whipped blue cheese and pear crostini - both of us were very happy. One of the best meals we’ve ever had.

This is an excellent restaurant. Ambiance, food, service and quality of customer care all superb. There is a good choice of for different dietary requirements on the menu and the owner took great care to ensure everything was perfect. Each dish was prepared with interesting taste combinations for example scallops with gooseberries a really excellent pairing. Service superb, staff attentive and friendly, something rarely seen in many places nowadays. A lovely experience which left us very excited to return.

Our experience was very underwhelming, and we were bothered throughout our meal by the incredibly creaky and wobbly tables, and the totally unsuitable and uncomfortable chairs. The tables were not clean, with crumbs and debris in the cracks. We mentioned this to the young lady but she seemed in a blank daze and unable to help. We may come back but hope it does improve.

I have just returned from a terrible pub lunch, which reminded me I must give a ten out of ten review for The Oak at Wigmore. The host is lovely and the food was outstanding. What more is there to say. However, I will add that I dont' normally eat meat out because I am afraid of the quality / animal welfare aspects, but was assured that the chicken was free range and was tempted to give it a try. I wasn't dissapointed. And what's more I could have eaten the roast without the meat, since there were so many wonderful fresh and tasty vegetables. The cauliflower cheese was a treat in itself - I could have eaten a bowl of that. I do agree that the goat cheese starter is more of a taster than a starter, but with a big main course to follow, who want's to be that over full? You have to leave room for a little pudding right?

Decided to give The Oak a try for Sunday Lunch - food was very good although the tomato and goats cheese starter was laughably small. Wine list was disappointing, £24 was the ‘cheapest’ wine and nothing different or interesting to choose from. £188 for the four of us is expensive for a lunch (we didn’t all have 3 courses and we had only 3 pre lunch drinks and no coffee!) so we won’t be doing it again. Very sad as we are looking for somewhere good but not at these prices. Staff need training, very pleasant but not well trained and if your charging top prices we expect top notch service.

Was greeted with an amazing house cocktail conjured up by the fabulous Alvin ( minus the chipmunks )....We sat down and enjoyed Ian's tasty tarts accompanied with some delicious homemade chutney.......Alvin then popped up with a prohibition style alcoholic drink served in a teacup ( Hicks of London style )........main courses delicious...... and desserts were a delightful treat on our already spoilt tastebuds......Love this AMAZING hidden gem.......Lene was there as always steering the ship to deliciousness !!!!!!......Can't wait to get back.....

The food was delicious and far better than we were expecting when we randomly booked for lunch. The staff were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable, and brilliant at explaining all the steps they had taken to make the restaurant Covid-secure. It was far and away the best place we ate during our long weekend in Herefordshire and I would highly recommend to anyone.

I have visited a number of times now with my husband and family, for lunches and dinners. The food is made to order and you can tell. Very rarely do you find a restaurant that produces a better Sunday lunch than can be done at home but the Oak certainly can - I've had beautiful rare beef and pork with perfect crackling here with lovely veg etc - perfectly cooked. Small portions designed so you have 3 courses - I have a big appetite and am more than satisfied when I leave. Ood wine selection too. Still one of the best meals in a pretty large radius. Highly recommended.

Perhaps it was the chef's night off but our evening out here bears very little similarity to the experiences of other reviewers. When we arrived the place was almost completely empty except for a small but noisy group hogging the bar. We eventually got served a drink and eventually were provided with menus by a very helpful young waiter. The starters were kind of OK although the portions were on the small size but the main course was very odd. I had a steak with a peppercorn sauce. For the first time ever I was not asked how I wanted my steak cooked and when it appeared - well done by the way - it was swimming in a watery liquid awash with hundreds of whole peppercorns. My companion's fish portion was small and dried out... what had been going on that evening? All very strange.

What a fantastic place to find. Couldn’t fault the food at all (a cut above the usual pub food): Thai fishcakes, ham hock terrine and goats cheese starters all great, as were the guinea fowl and belly pork mains. Good value for money and a lovely meal all round. Would definitely go back...would be very pleased if this was my local!

My wife and I returned for dinner for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The food is amazing. My wife committed that it’s one of the best restaurants she has been to. And I would agree. The staff and very attentive and friendly. The owner is a very polite welcoming lady who wants to make sure everything it perfect. Highly recommend by us who live only a few miles away.

There is a wonderful new chef at The Oak and a tasting menu was offered to showcase his style of food. It was superb. We would find it difficult to choose a favourite from the 7 courses on offer, but the celeriac soup, the hake custard, the belly and shoulder of pork, and the salted caramel cremeux linger in the memory. Feeding a group which included a pescatarian, a non-fish-eater and one with allergies proved no problem at all and all the alternatives were as delicious as the main options - please put that red pepper cream that was an alternative to the hake on the menu. Thank you for a super evening!

Visited before and enjoyed my meals but new chef is something else . I had the steak and okay not cheap at £24 but you get what you pay for and it was wow,to die for ,best I have had in years . Others had belly pork and were equally enthusiastic . Puddings a bit small but tasty . Book your table and visit ,you will not regret it.

What an amazing meal. New chef so went for their opening night taster menu.. all courses were delicious... particularly the celeriac soup with sherry and parsley oil and Hereford hop cheese ... the smoked hake custard was divine. Couldn’t fault all 5 courses ( but also little extras ... pre dessert was amazing) great value for money ( £45 ) ... would highly recommend.

Four of us dined here on Aug 31. Very restrictive menu and poor quantity and quality food. Rather deceptive pricing making the meal pricey for the quantity, beer decent and fair priced. Very noisy dining from the bar area. Will not return, many better ‘value for money’ around the area

Great dinner, and lovely owner / waitress / chef I think! relaxed restaraunt ambience, and all round very pleasant. Nice place for a coupe to eat.

Had three attempts to be given a menu. Arrived 7.15 and food finally served 8.45. Both ordered ox cheeks in red wine sauce. Sauce was greasy and both dishes cold.The ox cheeks were rubbery. The very small £4 dish of green vegetables was cold and the crushed new potatoes weren't crushed.The chips tasted very strongly of fish.(We noticed fish and chips as a Special that night).Serving staff were helpful and didn't mind us saying we couldn't eat the food. We didn't eat it and didn't pay for it but was too late to order another dish, especially given how long we had already waited.

We are so lucky to live near this super restaurant. There has been another change of menu style, but the food, as always, is excellent and often unusual - jackfruit spring rolls for example - and sweet potato fries were a revelation. Golly they were good. Although the wonderful owner is now more involved in the kitchen than front of house, the young people who served us on our recent visit were delightful, with just the right degree of friendly attentiveness. Thank you for another excellent evening. (And how many other restaurants do you expect to be full up on a Wednesday evening?)

My boyfriend and I were on a weekend away in the area and decided to book in for Sunday lunch due to such great reviews. We were not disappointed at all! We arrived early for our booking but were able to enjoy a drink at the front of the restaurant in the sunshine. We had one of the lovely waiters even come out to us with our menus in advance.

We randomly booked a table here for lunch on a Saturday and were very pleasantly surprised. I live in the area but had not been to the Oak for a number of years and was surprised to find it has been tastefully refurbed from pokey local boozer to modern upmarket pub. Lovely menu and a joy to find a local pub serving something more thoughtful and exciting than burger and chips or the other staple of Shropshire pubs, fish and chips. We had stuffed calamari and the pigeon breast to start followed by mussels in a rioja and bacon sauce (inspired) and a lovely bearnaise steak. All the dishes were delicious. Oh and a very good bottle of wine. Thoughtful, modern menu, beautifully cooked and very reasonably priced - I would highly recommend.

We visited The Oak with friends who live in Shropshire. They had dined there a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to take us there. What a find. Sunday lunch was excellent: tasty, interesting starters, the beef was cooked to perfection with several vegetables, and although I had already eaten so well, I just had to have a dessert. I was not disappointed. Nice relaxed ambiance and the staff were efficient and friendly. It has been recently refurbished and it is now a lovely upmarket country pub. It's a lovely pub with a rustic feel. We had trouble finding the door to get in which is on the side of the pub. The staff were really friendly and helpful and there was a laid back feel with lots of space. The menu had some very unique dishes including a fish creme brulee and a cheese souffle with ice cream. I really enjoyed my dishes particularly the rice pudding which was so creamy and has to be the best rice pudding I have ever had. I didn't know they could make it so tasty. It was reasonably priced too.
