Excellent food in this community run pub served by friendly people. We went for Family dinner and it was delicious. Big portions and good prices. We had fish & chips, steak pie, burger and a vegan lasagne all delicious! Would recommend.

Lovely community-owned pub in a village setting, with good food and a warm welcome. We visited twice for lunch and would come back again any time we're in the area. The staff were very attentive, and the food was excellent. Prices were very reasonable.

Excellent Fish and Chips and great atmosphere. We went back the next night even though there was loads of choice elsewhere, it was good enough to draw us back in.

So my partner and i were staying at Slayley hall. They were useless for helping us get a dinner reservation. We chose the nearby pub and it was an absolute treat. The effort they put in to dinner and service was amazing. We had a really gorgeous meal and will go back there in a heartbeat if we are in the area. Very well priced, very friendly. Not a bad word to say really. Couldn't reccomend this place high enough. If you're staying at Slayley Hall, definitely give this place a try.

What a truly special place! Stayed overnight as visiting friends nearby. Accomodation spotless and continental breakfast really good. Pub also great value for money and such a good friendly atmosphere. Will definitely return

‘’Twas the night before New Year’s Eve and we’d chosen to eat at the pub in the village near to where we were staying at Slaley Hall. I wasn’t that sure about booking here but I’m hugely pleased to say that we all enjoyed the food and hospitality. The initial welcome was as warm and friendly as was the service and complimented by really good pub food. Make sure you are hungry because the portions are plentiful and full of flavour. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Had a lovely boxing day meal. Even though the restaurant was very busy, the waiting staff were all calm, friendly and polite. Turkey lunch was tasty and filling.

Went for Sunday lunch with my brother, great food, we had traditional Sunday lunch (roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings) good choice on the menu including Venison stew. Excellent pint of bitter from the hand pump. Very friendly staff, views great and dog friendly in the bar. Community run pub - fantastic.

Had Sunday lunch and it was excellent, Staff are the friendliest and most helpfull I've come across. Food was great and so was the price. This is a Community owned Pub and is great to support it.

Super friendly bar staff and very well mannered, a good selection of drinks, we didn’t eat here but will next time the portions looked very good and the menu looks really good, there were plenty of people eating and ordering a desert, will definitely be back to try the food, keep up the good work, a very comfortable pub 👏

As per normal excellent food and service. Cannot fault the food, I had chicken and haggis wrapped in bacon with a peppercorn sauce. I chose chips and peas, but it does come with boiled potatoes and veg. The Christmas menu is out and is great value for money. Suggest booking early, we have.

I visited the pub for dinner with my mum on a Sunday evening. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great. The Sunday roast was excellent and extremely reasonably priced. Exactly what we needed after a long drive!

Visited on 15th October 2023 for Sunday lunch. 15 minute drive from Hexham in a beautiful location. Pub itself has wonderful views from the dining area across the fields. Very cosy pub, not olde worlde but traditional pub from the early 20th century. We went for Sunday dinner and the food was wonderful. Sunday roast which was served in a timely manner and was delicious. Yorkshire pudding with your roast and the carrot and turnip was superb. Very good menu and very, very reasonably priced. Good selection of drinks and deserts. Apple crumble was superb. Staff super, super friendly. Cannot fault the place at all, highly recommended.

We visited here for Sunday lunch for the first time. It was very welcoming, the staff and management were friendly and attentive.There’s a great choice on the menu and our roast dinners came quickly, were good quality and the portion sizes very good.The only downside is that the place could do with a refresh, with new furniture and decor it would be much more appealing. I appreciate that there’s a cost to this but I think more people would visit and they’d happily pay a little more for the food.All in all, great value place to eat and we’d recommend.

We were recommended to eat at the Rose & Crown by staff from our nearby bed and breakfast accommodation. It is a fine looking country that proudly proclaims it is community owned. Let’s have more of these please. We did not have a reservation it very friendly at tentative staff showed us to a table with a wonderful view overlooking the countryside. Throughout our visit the staff were super friendly and took great care of us. Food and drink were both superb. It was a real treat to enjoy the hospitality of a real village pub with smart decor. 10/10.

Popped in for a quick meal, the steak and ale pie was to die for, my wife's Gammon steak with all the trimmings was fantastic, my Hungarian Goulash the paprika was not cooked well enough. Desserts great, service by the two Ninjas excellent.

The service was very friendly and polite, the food was great all though there wasn’t much choice for children they did offer smaller portions. I had the black pudding starter, this was lightly battered in a peppercorn sauce and tasted fantastic. The game pie was fabulous and full of flavours I followed up with a sticky toffee pudding and custard this was also good. My wife only had the roast lamb and my kids had the sausages and mash and roast beef followed by chocolate fudge cake custard and ice cream. A very nice country pub.

Found the pub by accident as the Lord Crewe was "too busy" to serve a sandwich but what a great find. Good friendly service a very nice garden and good food and drink what more could you want. Will go here in the future Lord Crewe's loss

We visited this community owned/run country pub twice during our stay at Slaley Hall Lodges and enjoyed a friendly welcome and service, good simple food and a good local pint. Portions were a good size and the sea bass and steak pie were both excellent. We ate indoors but could see that the beear garden had good views and the little ones were catered for with the climbing frame. This place may be run by the locals but everyone is made very welcome and we felt covid safe here too.

The pub has a small sitting area but it has a outdoor terrace at the back of the pub (quite common in village pubs)Ordered with Fish and Chips along with a "large" pepsi which was quite nice and I'm usually quite fussy when it comes to food. The fish wasn't greasy and never were the hand cut chips. Overall the food was very nice.The coke/pepsi large size is roughly about half pint size which was a little underwhelming given that they had an option for small or large. I expected a large to be of pint size or thereabouts, which for £2 is a little bit more expensive than what other pubs charge however the nearest pub is quite a few miles away.Overall it is a classic pub with classic pub food and drinks. There is free WiFi in the pub as there's no mobile connection otherwise.They had all the track and trace bits there if you care about that and they accept cash and card payments without any hassle. However food is only during certain times which I think for a Friday night was 5pm to 8pm.Even though it was a Friday night, the pub was quite empty so there was plenty of seat areas available so you don't have to worry about it being busy

We had a lovely family get together in the beer garden. Staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly. The food was great and good value. Would highly recommend and looking forward to visiting again soon.

We had an excellent home cooked meal here whilst staying at Slaley Hall. This Pub is run by the Community. We were made very welcome. What a gem of a find in a very pleasant village. We will certainly return before heading for home.

What an amazing friendly village pub. Visited one afternoon with my family and our dog and was openly welcomed and sat at our table. The service was excellent as always and the food outstanding. I ordered myself a steak which was cooked to perfection and so tender one of the best I’ve ever had. My brother ordered a burger which once again could not fault. Overall amazing staff, atmosphere and really good value for money. Already booked again for Saturday. Would highly recommend.

My family and I came here due to all the amazing comments on trip advisor, sadly we were all really disappointed. Lovely service (you could not complain about that) but the food was very average. The dishes sounded amazing on the menu but when they came to the table lacked seasoning and any imagination and for the standard of food We received we think it was very overpriced.

Visited the Rose and Crown Slaley with my young children for food after being recommended. The food was absolutely delicious and excellent value. I would definitely recommend for food. I would give 5 stars for the food. I only gave 4 because of the way the lady behind the bar spoke to the young member of staff who had obviously just started working there. It was quite hard not to hear the conversation as she was shouting at the young staff member in front of everyone. I'm sure she was just having an off day but she was quite rude to customers in the restaurant also. It was such a shame because the food was unreal and deserved a 5 star rating.

We originally decided to eat in the rose and crown to give money to a local pub rather than a big chain like weatherspoons. The reasons we have booked to go back the following week isnt driven from supporting local buisnesses it is because the staff are so friendly and more importantly the chef and food is some of the best i have ever eaten! We are going to order everything on the specals menu this time. the prawns where cooked amazingly with loads of flavor. the crispy beef was crispy yet sticky. it was all in all a terrific meal.5 star would recomend.

I can always count on the rose and crown for the best roast gammon with chips, cherry tomatoes, Mushrooms, Egg, and pineapple. It's a lovely community place.
