After a trip to Chester Zoo, we decided to go for food within walking distance of our BnB. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered the steak and fries with beef dripping. Food was delicious and cooked to each of our preferences. Would highly recommend to anyone who's in the area. Great food, great staff, and great atmosphere.

We called in here for a drink. It is probably 15 years ago since I was last here and had heard good reports. It was a Saturday afternoon, we called in for a drink, to find the place pretty quiet. The bar is tucked away in the corner which seemed strange, the main bar area felt more like a canteen. We did not eat there, but I cannot get excited about the general feeling of the place.

Roast beef as thin as paper, only 2 roast potatoes, no other potatoes offered, there was a dish of vegetables Desserts were o.k, had 2 drinks a soft drink and a beer £36, very overpriced. Can't see this lasting too long at that price, won't be visiting again

Visited for the first time since re-opening. Have updated the old, worn out pub to a more homely place with a nice fire, bar area and selection of drinks. The place has a very homely feel and a good menu without being too vast. We had the chicken and goats cheese burger, regular burger, chicken curry, slow cooked beef and coconut chilli chicken. All were faultless- as were the puddings. The salted caramel cheesecake was to die for! It is well worth a visit and can’t wait to try the Sunday lunch some time.

We visited here for Sunday lunch and had a very nice meal. Whilst it took some 45 minutes from taking the orders to actually being served, there was no doubt that what we received was freshly and carefully cooked, well presented, and there was more than enough to satisfy the largest of appetites.

My wife and I, and another couple, just spend three nights at this hotel. As is stated in some previous reviews it is an older place that lacks some of the modern amenities. However, we loved the local flavor to the place starting with the lovely proprietor, Yvonne, who couldn't have been nicer and met every need we had. The rooms are adequate, the wifi works, and the bed was very comfortable. We ate dinner twice at the hotel, including the Sunday roast, and they were wonderful. The chef is amazing. So bluntly if you want luxury go to Chester to the Sheraton. If you want casual, local flavor go to the Farndon.

I stayed just the one night - the room was average but could do with a good clean with lots of dust and cobwebs in the light fittings and the carpet needed hoovering. Tea and coffee facilities were provided in the room but the stairs were quite steep and entry after the pub had closed was via a spiral staircase outside of the building which when wet may not be ideal for elderly people. The linen was nice and clean and the shower was excellent . The breakfast was good but the whole environment just looked "tired" and not worth the money paid, you are obviously paying for the location rather than the accommodation itself as I have stayed in far nicer places for a similar and lesser price. Cannot rate the restaurant as it was closed due to illness of the chef.

Yvonne was very welcoming and the room / bathroom was modern and clean. We were passing through and would recommend this hotel for anyone. My only criticism was breakfast; the meal itself was nice, apart from my poached eggs that were cooked all the way through, and my friend asked for certain items to be left off his breakfast but they were all present when it came. No one asked how things were therefore we didn't provide this verbally. We had evening baskets meals which were very tasty!

Stayed one night at The Fardon. The owner was pleasant and greeted us with a lovely welcome. The room was supposed to be a superior double room. It is an old coaching house but I would have expected more space, a larger bed and the room to be dust free. The bathroom has been decorated at some point as the floor still had evidence of paint specs over the floor. The decor was aged and could do with sprucing up. A duster run over all surfaces and a feather duster around the lamp shade would not go unwanted. The carpet though clean where a standard Hoover will reach showed that the cleaning staff were not good with an eye for detail as the edges were built up with lots of dust. The en suite was very small and did not warrant the superior double description. There was a problem with a socket over heating and smelling in the room which was reported and instead of a different room being offered or something else being offered I spent the night catnapping just in case anything went wrong. Food; the evening meal was a meze starter which on the menu described meats, breads and cheese. It was lacking cheese with no reason or explanation. This portion for the price was not very good. Very little preparation required with very little on the plate. The main course was excellent, very tasty and a good value portion. The chips were fantastic and the steak and mushroom pie very tasty. The waitresses though polite were not particularly comfortable with what they were doing and one of them when questioned did not know what the soup of the day was. There was a good choice of wines on the menu but some were not in stock. Poor management of stock or planning? The breakfast the following morning was a satisfactory size portion but cooked breakfasts are traditionally hot there was only the sausage that was hot on the plate. The toast a slice was probably smaller than half a small bread bun. This overall was not value for money. I plan to visit the area again for a longer stay later in the year and I am sorry to say I will not be considering this hotel. Premier inn are cheaper and much better value.

Very friendly and well decorated! We ordered the rump and red and we had starters too (fatties!) The soup was fab, the black pudding was interesting! Was in a red wine jus, but was more like black pudding in bisto! Was perfectly edible though! Steak was fabulous, perfectly cooked with fantastic sauces and plentiful veg and chips! Onion rings are to die for! Just a shame it was so quiet! Go and try it. Rump and a bottle of red for 2 for £30!!

Farndon Arms you have let yourself go! Sunday evening virtually nobody eating, our meal took two hours for 3 adults 2 children. On arrival rushed to table which we resisted to have a drink and pick a meal. Should not have bothered. Virtually half the menu was not available. No pie of the day, so ordered lamb cobbler, no lamb but had beef, bit of mince beef, carrot, gravy, was edible but not good. Roast chicken dinner was sloppy, tasteless, burnt. The fattata was just an omelette. Garlic bread starter was straight out of supermarket and no feta cheese accompanying olives. Best bit was chips and kids ice cream. Poor waitress was very pleasant, chef appeared to be a bit of a kid, all reheated food. In the words of Nick Knowles your definitely not on the list...for a meal in future!

The surrounding's, décor and great food, add to a lovely evening meal. The staff are attentive (without being fussy) and helpful when asked. I should explain the the "Rump & Red" is of course steak with all the trimming's (onion ring's, mushrooms, tomatoes, peas and "proper chips") and a bottle of red wine (white is also available) At just £30 both my wife and I had no complaint's and agreed that not only is it value for money, the portion's are not reduced to accommodate this. Don't take my word for it, call in and try it yourself, and by the way the 70's basket meals (on the table next to us looked good too !

My family and I visited this restaurant recently and were made very welcome. We arrived at 7.30 pm and ordered main meals only, although the children in the party had ice creams as part of their 'kids meal deal', but we did not get out until 9.00 pm. The service was friendly but extremely slow, which is why we did not stop for coffees or desserts. The food was okay. My husband and daughter chose a pork pie salad, which looked good, but came with pieces of french loaf but no butter. My daughter also remarked that the 'more tired' bits of salad had been tucked under the better bits.I ordered a fish pie and was surprised to find that the main ingredient was calamari - lots of little pieces of rubber band amongst a thin sauce with a couple of bits of white fish and a prawn. The potato topping was fine though, but the whole thing could have been presented more attractively. As it was, the pie dish was put on plate with a sprig of parsley tucked under one side and a spoonful of peas swirling round the rest of the plate. My granddaughter left most of her pasta dish and when I tasted it I could see why. She complained that there was hardly any sauce and when I tried what was there it proved to be bland to the point of tastelessness.

We were staying in a unit near by for a week and walked here for a meal one night. We only had fish and chips but asked for a salad in place of the ubiquitous peas/mushy peas that always seems to be served with fish here in the UK ...- why this is the case I have no idea, I can't think of a worse accompaniment to fish - ...anyway, the salads we got were absolutely first rate, a generous combination of vegetables well presented and dressed. They really went to some trouble to make the salad interesting, unlike every other pub where we have made the same request a got something bland. The bar was quiet the night we were there but it had very good atmosphere, with a real wood-burning fire. The waitress who served us was a chatty and friendly student.Seems like this would be a good place for a weekend away.

Everything was just so fresh and tasty, leaving me in no doubt that it had been cooked there and then to order. We were pleasantly surprised inside, the décor is tasteful and the staff were immediately welcoming. We were shown to a table and although the wait was slightly longer than expected for our drinks to arrive, the service was otherwise very good. I ordered the fishcakes which came with a lovely side salad. My husband ordered the steak & mushroom pie, which he really enjoyed. My fishcakes were really lovely too and great value. We had a really enjoyable time here, and will definitely return. Don't look too closely at the paint as it is patchy in some places, but this certainly doesn't detract from the service & food.
